What I wore for Onam 2018

Onam Ashamsakal!

The biggest festival in Kerala is Onam. The beautiful women of Kerala adorn white sarees and dance around the pookkalams! Onam is also one of those festivals that we all love dressing up for. I’m a Tamil girl but I have never missed wearing the Onam special saree even a year.

Irrespective of religion, we celebrate all the festivals with the same zeal. Sharing sweets and bursting crackers on diwali, celebrating ramzan with biriyani, putting up christmas decorations is totally our thing!

With these festivals and seasons changing the dressing up game has to always be on point. To choose between going completely traditional or to do tradition with a twist is completely your call.

White onam sarees traditionally come with rich golden borders and zari and so they go so well with golden jewellery.

The saree worn for this festive occasion has golden coloured borders or a broad zari border known as Kasavu, hence called “Kasavu Saree”.

Gone are the days when plain green or red blouses were matched with the onam saree. The trend has changed now and different ways pulling off the traditional and modern looks with this elegant saree has taken over the fashion scene.

This blouse was a gift from my mom. It goes well with a couple of my other sarees as well. I chose to wear these metal Jhumkas and bangles just for a little twist in the overall look. The Jhumkas are not as heavy as they seem to be. I picked it up on one of my shopping trips to Sowcarpet.

Since I am wearing chunky earrings, I chose not to wear any neckpiece. I matched these earrings with metal bangles. Yet another treasure from my Sowcarpet jewelry hunt. This is a good buy because it goes well with almost anything and everything.

So this is the look I came up with for this Onam 2018. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks for reading.

Happy Onam folks!
